A man is in critical condition after being hit by a UTA bus near Pioneer Park this morning.
Police say the man was walking northbound through the intersection of 300 West and 400 South in a crosswalk when the UTA bus, which was turning left, hit him. He was taken to the hospital in critical condition with head injuries.
A friend of the victim says he was in the crosswalk, too. "(The bus) came about two inches from hitting me," he said. He says the bus was speeding up to go through a yellow light, but police say the light was green. The witness says the impact sent the victim flying 15 feet into the road.
The bus driver was not injured. He is on standard administrative leave. No one else was on board the bus at the time of the incident.
Police are investigating and have not said whether citations will be issued. Routine drug and alcohol checks and checks on the bus's brakes will take place.
