UPS driver dies in crash near Tooele, Utah

A truck driver died in a Monday morning accident in a Stansbury Park intersection. A northbound dump truck turned left at the intersection of State Roads 36 and 138 around 9:20 a.m. But the dump truck slammed head-on into a southbound UPS truck and trailer, said Utah Highway Patrol trooper Cameron Roden.

The truck belonged to Western Excavating, which was doing some work in Tooele.

The dump-truck driver was ejected and flown by helicopter to an area hospital in serious condition. He is improving and is expected to be OK, Roden said.

The UPS driver -- 54-year-old Allen Christopherson of West Jordan -- was killed in the accident.
