As a practicing attorney familiar with many of Utah's judges, including Judge Hilder, I have to say the the legislature made a huge mistake with this recent decision. Judge Hilder has one of the best judicial temperments I have ever seen and was eminently qualified for the position he sought. Even as a believer in gun rights I still say a mistake was made. The gun rights lobby obviously didn't understand or over stated the basis for Judge Hilder's decision.
   
All of Utah lost a great opportunity.
